Geisinger Reports First Swine Flu Death

DANVILLE, MONTOUR COUNTY Geisinger Medical Center is confirming its first death resulting from the H1N1 virus. Geisinger isnt releasing any details about the patient.

A statement from Geisinger reads The Geisinger family sends our thoughts and prayers to the patient's family. This death underscores the potential severity of the H1N1 swine origin virus. The statement goes on to read we encourage the public to contact their primary care providers and student health centers for more information on where to get vaccinated.

This is the second swine flu death in northeastern Pennsylvania. In June, a 48-year old woman from Pike County died.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, 23 Pennsylvanians have died from the H1N1 virus.
