Two people were injured Friday afternoon after an explosion at Rozzi's Famous Fireworks.
The explosion was reported sometime after 4 p.m. at the company's offices at 11605 Lebanon Road.
Crews at the scene said workers were digging on the lot with a Bobcat when they hit something and triggered a large explosion. No one was sure what caused the explosion so parts of Linden Hall Drive south of the lot were evacuated as a precaution. The bomb squad was also called in to investigate.
Two employees of Rozzi's were burned in the explosion. They were taken to Bethesda North Hospital in stable condition.
The workers were digging on the site because they're trying to clear out the area before they move to a new location at the end of the year.
"All of a sudden there was just a boom," said witness Daniel Mills. "The windows shook, and the floors actually vibrated for about half a second, at the most, and then it was gone."
The Rozzis are known for their elaborate fireworks displays across the country, including events like Riverfest and the Fourth of July celebration in Cincinnati.
