CLINTON, Miss. - WAPT.com
Clinton elementary schools now have a unique way to make sure teachers' voices can be heard loud and clear.
The schools are using sound amplification systems so the class can hear the teachers better. The new technology has been installed at all four elementary schools.
By using the system, teachers don't have to speak loudly in the classroom. The speaker amplifies the teachers' voices so that they never sound like they're more than seven feet away from each student.
“It's very hard to teach without it now that I'm used to it,” math teacher DeMarla Fox said. “The students are more focused. They hear more of what I'm saying and not what's going on outside the door, so we love it.”
Clinton Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Tim Martin said there are benefits for teachers and students.
“It creates more attention for students and we've found that increases student achievement scores,” Martin said. “Technology is always a moving target and we're trying to stay current with it to try to stay ahead of what our students need.”
Students sitting at the back of the class can hear the instructor just as well as those sitting in the front.
“Our teachers love it. So many times, our teachers would lose their voice because they would teach and during that, they would end up losing their voice. This has prevented that because they don't have to speak as loud,” Eastside Elementary School Principal Cindy Hamil said.
The district used grant money to purchase the sound systems, which cost nearly $210,000.
