Man gets jail after two bank robberies

Levittown - A Philadelphia man who held up banks in both Montgomery and Bucks counties is going to do hard time.Montgomery County Judge Thomas P. Rogers this week sentenced Scott Michael Herman, 41, of Philadelphia, to two to four years in state prison for the February robberies of TD Banks in Hatboro and Upper Southampton.That sentence will be followed by a six-year probation sentence that will begin after he completes his parole. During his parole and probation, Herman must pay a combined $2,101 in restitution to the banks.The judge also ordered Herman to write letters of apology to the managers of both banks.The first robbery took place at the TD Bank in the first block of Second Street Pike, Upper Southampton, about 4:45 p.m. on Feb. 2.Herman approached a teller, giving her a note that read, "This is a robbery. I want all the $100s, $50s, $20s and $10s in your station. No dye bags and remain calm and nobody will be hurt."When the teller asked him if this was for real, Herman replied, "Very. I have a gun," according to the criminal complaint.The teller complied with Herman's demand, providing him with $500 in cash. The second robbery happened two days later about 4:40 p.m. at the TD Bank in the 200 block of South York Road, Hatboro.Herman again passed a teller a similarly worded note, announcing the robbery and demanding money. He also indicated in the note that he had a gun, the complaint said.The teller handed him $1,601.Warminster Police Detective James Boston, a court-recognized expert in fingerprint analysis and identification, matched the prints taken from both robberies to those of Herman.Margaret Gibbons can be reached at 610-279-6153 or mgibbons@phillyBurbs.com.
