A SWAT situation involving an armed man inside a Waggaman home came to a peaceful end Thursday evening, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said.
Anthony Agnew, 35, had barricaded himself inside the home at 42 Robert Drive after an argument with his estranged wife. He surrendered to authorities at 4:36 p.m., after 10 minutes of talking with SWAT negotiators.
Sheriff's deputies said it all started when the wife went to pick up the couple's children. Agnew appeared on the scene with a handgun, deputies said. He ordered his wife to drop the children off at a family member's home and then ordered her to drive back to their home on Robert Drive.
Once they arrived, the couple argued and neighbors called the sheriff's office.
The wife got out of the house soon after deputies arrived and was not injured, Col. John Fortunato said.
The couple have been married for 17 years but recently separated, deputies said. They have four children.
Agnew will be charged with second-degree kidnapping, false imprisonment, illegal possession of firearm and violation of stay away order.
