Funeral for Fallen DEA Agent
LYCOMING COUNTY - A Lycoming County community will pay final respects, Thursday, to a Hughesville native killed in Afghanistan. 30-year-old Chad Michael was among 10-killed last week when their helicopter crashed. Michael was a special agent with the Drug Enforcement Agency. He grew up in Hughesville, was a 1997 graduate of Hughesville High School and a former member of the Hughesville Fire Department. Michael was among 3 DEA agents and 7 U.S. servicemen on an early morning drug mission on October 26th. They had just raided a compound believed to be harboring insurgents linked to the opium trade. Their helicopter crashed during a suspected firefight with the Taliban drug traffickers. Michael and all the others on board were killed. For Michael, it was his first drug mission in Afghanistan, He had arrived in that country in August after previously working 6-years with the DEA in Miami. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Resurrection, 75 Musser Lane in Muncy. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hughesville.
