KENNEWICK, Wash-- There is no animal control center run by Benton County at this time. Local leaders have been talking for years to try and set one up.

It wasn't until recently, when 400 eskimo dogs were taken from a Kennewick home, that the issue has taken back up.

We talked with county comissioner Jim Beaver, who says one of the proposed plans for an animal center is at the Benton Franklin Fairgrounds. Problem is, there are talks of selling the land to the Benton-Franklin Fair Association. Now the question--does this impact any decisions about building an animal center?

"That's a proposal that's moving forward, that's not a done deal," says Beaver. "It is something we're looking at, the Fair Association purchasing the fairgrounds property. The animal control facility is not included in that sale, that property would be seperate."

Commissioner Beaver says he'd like to see an animal center built and hopes it doesn't take another 400 dog seizure to get it done.

When asked for a possible timeline, Beaver says it's a little early to tell.
