A 53-year-old St. Lucie County man has died from the H1N1 flu, and clinics throughout the Palm beaches and on the Treasure Coast are administering vaccines.
Health officials reported Wednesday that the victim had an underlying health condition that made him more susceptible to the flu. The man's identity was not immediately released.
The man's death marks the fifth H1N1 death in St. Lucie County. Statewide, 140 people have died from it the H1N1 flu.
Health officials are administering dozens of doses of the H1N1 vaccine on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Indian River County Health Department has nearly 600 doses available for children at a clinic in Vero Beach.
The Martin County Health Department also distributed the vaccine Wednesday in Stuart. In Palm Beach County, a clinic was held at the South Grade Beacon Center in Lake Worth. Another clinic is scheduled for Thursday at the Caridad Health Clinic in Boynton Beach.
