(FOLEY, Ala.) Nov. 3 - A scam cost two Gulf Coast families nearly a million dollars, Foley Police said. A man accused of being a part of the scam has been arrested. Stanley Walker is suspected of being involved in a Jamaican lottery scam. The scam usually targets senior citizens, who are told they've won the lottery. Victims are then asked to pay taxes or transfer fees on the winnings by wiring over the money. In the local cases, the victims were asked to send money repeatedly, police said. When the victims stopped sending money, they were threatened with violence, but were never actually harmed.
