SACRAMENTO, Calif. - KCRA.com
The state Office of the Inspector General will publicly release the findings of a special review Wednesday that includes parole information about kidnapping and rape suspect Phillip Garrido.
The office recently conducted an independent investigation of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation's parole supervision of Garrido.
Garrido and his wife, Nancy Garrido, have both pleaded not guilty to rape, kidnapping and other charges related to the kidnapping of Jaycee Lee Dugard. They are being held in El Dorado County.
Garrido was on federal and then state parole during the time he allegedly took Dugard from a bus stop and then held her for nearly two decades at his Antioch home. He allegedly fathered Dugard's two children.
The two-month investigation was launched after questions surfaced about CDCR's failure to find and rescue Dugard and her daughters sooner.
Parole agents supervised Garrido for a decade before Dugard and her daughters were rescued in August.
GARRIDO'S PAROLE
"Generically, in a case like this, we would take a look at whether or not the department's own rules and regulations were followed in the supervision of Mr. Garrido, or anyone in his situation," state Inspector General David Shaw said in a previous interview.
The inspector general is responsible for independent oversight of corrections.
Shaw will release the special report and recommendations to CDCR Wednesday at a news conference.
CDCR Secretary Matthew Cate will also be at the news conference.
The report will be posted on the inspector general's Web site Wednesday.
