Tuesday is Election Day: Local, state, and regional election coverage

WASHINGTON COVERAGE

OLYMPIA, Wash.- Two statewide ballot measures top the ticket Tuesday for Washington state voters. The focus of this year's off-year election is a referendum on expanded domestic partnership rights for gay and senior couples. Voters also will decide an initiative to cap government revenue growth. Three state House races are on the ballot in Eastern Washington, and voters will also choose a new Seattle mayor and King County executive.

About 98 percent of the vote is being cast by mail. Pierce County is the only county that still has some polling places. Mail ballots must be postmarked by Tuesday, or dropped off at a designated site.Secretary of State Sam Reed expects 51 percent of Washington's 3.5 million voters to take part in Tuesday's election.

IDAHO COVERAGE

BOISE, Idaho- It's election day in cities and towns all across Idaho today. Races to be decided by voters today are local contests. There are no statewide issues or races to be decided Tuesday.

In Boise, voters must fill three seats on the city council. For some candidates, the election has become a referendum on the city's plans to invest $60 million to build a streetcar system through a downtown corridor. In Kootenai County in the north and Canyon County in the southwest, voters will cast ballots for or against proposals to spend millions of dollars on new county jails.

Voters in Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, Lewiston, Moscow, Pocatello, Chubbuck and many other cities and towns have city council races to decide. And in other towns and counties, voters will also be asked to decide requests for school funding.
