EVANSVILLE, Ind. - WLKY.com
The state confirmed Monday an Evansville, Indiana nurse died of the H1N1 virus.
Danna Fortune's family said she was a nurse in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit of an Evansville hospital. Fortune wanted to get a vaccine, but her family said the hospital ran out of doses before her appointment.
Before dying, Fortune wrote a message to her family.
"She had a breathing thing on and she kept trying to say something to my Dad," said Fortune's daughter, Sarah. "He said, 'Danna, I can't understand you. Can you write it down?' She wrote 'Girls. H1N1 Flu Shots.' She wanted us to get our flu shots. This just really hit my heart, because my mom would have been okay if she would have had that."
Fortune is one of two new confirmed deaths in Indiana. The other is a woman in Jackson County whose information was not immediately released.
