EPA adds central NJ site to Superfund list

Levittown - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has placed the Raritan Bay Slag site in Sayreville and Old Bridge Township on the Superfund National Priorities List.The site consists of several areas with lead-contaminated material along the shore of the Raritan Bay and along Margaret's Creek in Old Bridge. They include a seawall and jetty constructed with contaminated slag material.The listing, announced Monday, will enable the EPA to continue its investigation into the extent of the contamination and determine the most effective way to deal with it.The EPA has placed warning signs and erected security fencing to restrict access to the affected areas.
