VERO BEACH, Fla. - WPBF.com
Indian River County sheriff's deputies have arrested four Vero Beach men accused of forcing two pit bulls to fight each other.
Ervin Everett Jr., Christopher Jones, Jamiey Parker and Kenneth Smith were arrested Saturday on felony dogfighting charges.
Deputies said they saw Parker, Jones and a fifth man standing in a circle, throwing dirt and yelling at the dogs, while Smith and Everett held the dogs on a leash.
According to the arrest reports, Smith and Everett ran when they noticed the deputies. They were eventually caught and were also charged with resisting arrest. Another man who ran from the scene was able to get away.
Deputies said the suspects denied owning any of the dogs found at the scene, and animal control officers seized them. Two of the dogs were treated for injuries.
