Fire Forces Evacuation of Elementary School
PLYMOUTH, LUZERNE COUNTY -- Main Street Elementary School in Plymouth was evacuated this morning after a small but smoky fire.
The school is part of the Wyoming Valley West School District. Students were evacuated from the building and taken to the high school, which is just behind the elementary school.
Main Street Elementary Principal Ray Whalen told Eyewitness News he believes someone set fire to some toilet paper in the boys bathroom in the basement around 9:00 A.M.
Due to the smell of smoke throughout the building students will be kept at the high school for the rest of the day. Students were allowed to go back to the school to collect their belongings. They will receive regular lunch at the high school and will be dismissed at the regular time.
Whalen also said parents of elementary students can come to the high school to pick up their children if they wish. After school tutoring programs are canceled.
The fire remains under investigation.
