Gay rights group pushes initiative for 2012 ballot

Portland (KMTR) - The state's largest gay rights group is launching a new campaign to persuade voters to support same-sex marriage. The Oregonian reports Basic Rights Oregon is hoping to convince voters that they should reverse their anti-gay marriage vote of five years ago, and support a new initiative, which they hope to put on the ballot in 2012. In 2004, Oregon voters approved a constitutional change which banned gay and lesbian marriage. A church-backed group called The Oregon Family Council promises fierce resistance to the new initiative.
