Mother Accused Of Killing Son Had Children Taken Away Before

It seems the woman accused of killing her toddler in Laurel County had two other children removed from her care several years ago.

Amanda Johnson is charged with murder and criminal abuse in the death of her son, 23-month old Stephen Troy. The police citation accuses her of abusing Troy over a period of time. Documents say the boy had several bruises and fractures to his left leg. The coroner says Troy died of blunt force trauma to the abdomen after he was rushed to the hospital unresponsive.

Now, authorities in Michigan tell LEX 18 News, Johnson's parental rights to two other kids were terminated four years ago, after she pleaded no contest to an abuse charge there. Prosecutors tell a Michigan newspaper the 2005 decision was a life-saving one.
