PORT ST. JOHN, Fla. - WESH.com
Children in costumes aren't the only ones who are going door to door this Halloween.
Titusville police will also knock on doors of registered sex offenders to make sure they know the rules.
Parents said there are a lot of things that scare them about Halloween. On the top of the list are sex offenders.
"You never know who's under the costume," said parent Bill Knickle.
Another parent, Ed Ryan, said he stays with his children as they trick or treat.
"I stay with them because of sex offenders," he said.
Titusville police said all sex offenders in the area have been informed that they will be closely watched come Halloween night.
"We want to make sure they don't lure kids inside with candy," said Lt. Todd Hutchinson.
Police said they are also doubling their patrols and staying on high visibility to make sure that trick-or-treaters are safe not just from sex offenders, but from drunk drivers and speeders, as well.
There will be zero tolerance for speeding violations, Hutchinson said.
