MILFORD, Ohio - WLWT.com

The Loveland High School football team didn't just want to win their game Friday night, they also hoped to honor the memory of a former Tiger killed in Afghanistan.

Marine Capt. Seth Mitchell, a part of this Loveland football team 12 years ago, was killed in a helicopter crash.

In the locker room, before they took to the field against Milford, this night was about more than just football.

Mitchell's former coach Kevin Taylor asked the players to carry his spirit with them.

"I'm not asking you guys to win the game for Mitch, but for all of those who came before, and who will come after, make them proud," Taylor said. "I want you to play the game like Seth, with determination, with courage and sacrifice. Leave it out on the field, tonight."

Emotions were still running high as players took the field.

"We're here just to honor him and let people know how special of a man he was," said Mollie Emerick, who went to high school with Mitchell. Emerick organized a moment of silence before Friday night's game at Milford.

Friends said Mitchell would probably have been embarrassed by all the speeches and memorials, but he would have appreciated the message to honor our fallen heroes.
