Filmmakers Claim a Convicted Man is Innocent

In 1991 a man named Douglas White was sentenced to 292 months in jail for a crime some say he didn't commit.

White was charged and convicted in federal court of raping his two grandsons.

Now some filmmakers are claiming White is innocent based on information they uncovered while researching a movie about him.

And they say they want to raise awareness about unfair treatment of Native Americans in the court system.

Writer and researcher for “Holy Man” film, Simon Joseph, says, “This case typifies a lot of what happens to Native Americans in South Dakota, I think it varies from case to case. Obviously in this case this is a really terrible example of what could happen to somebody, I think it affects every American because if anyone could get, this could happen to anybody.”

The film makers will be in Pine Ridge on Sunday to promote their cause to get white released from prison.
