PLACER COUNTY, Calif. - KCRA.com
Different juries found two men guilty of first-degree murder this week, according to Placer County court spokesman Art Campos.
Penryn resident Donald Hugh Sherman was found guilty Monday of ordering the torture and killing of his cousin, 37-year-old Guy Farmer.
Peter Schoemig of Reno was found guilty Friday of murder by another jury, Campos said.
Prosecutors said Sherman, 44, thought his cousin stole chemicals used in a drug-making operation, and when the man wouldn't confess, he sent in "enforcers" to beat him.
The chemicals were never found, according to the case, and Farmer tried to escape from a locked garage. Prosecutors said Sherman then decided to take the man's life by injecting him with drugs.
Schoemig, 32, and another person then took Farmer's body and dumped it near Reno, prosecutors said.
Both men are being held in the Placer County Jail in Auburn.
Sentencing for Sherman and Schoemig is scheduled for Nov. 30.
