Baltimore County police are investigating the fatal shooting of a business owner. The shooter later turned the gun on himself.
The incident occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. Friday at Keary Advertising in the 7200 block of Rolling Mill Road.
Police said a man, identified as Dennis McLaughlin, 45, of Halethorpe, walked into the business through an employee door and shot business owner Wayne Keary, 59, of Parkville, who died at the scene.
Diane Withrow said she had just come out of the bathroom near Keary’s office when it happened.
“I just finished talking to him, and then he was lying on his side by the door. A couple of his chairs were knocked over. It was real smoky. I seen multiple bullet wounds,” she said.
McLaughlin then went outside and shot himself in the upper body, according to police. He died about an hour later at Bayview Medical Center.
“I was shocked because I heard the gunshots, and then when he ran outside, I thought, ‘What is he doing?’ Then he looked to the left, looked to the right and was real calm, and then -- bam,” said Chris Ashley, who works nearby and witnessed McLaughlin shoot himself.
The shooting is believed to be domestic in nature but police would not elaborate on the motive.
Keary Advertising has been open since 1950, according to its
. The direct mail advertising service lists the Baltimore Orioles, Goucher College and The University of Maryland School Of Medicine as clients.
Workers told 11 News that McLaughlin was the husband of a former employee.
