Eugene (KMTR) - Lane County sheriff’s deputies and deputies from counties across the state will be beefing up patrols to catch impaired drunk drivers this weekend. Grants from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will be used to pay for extra patrols during the heightened enforcement. Drivers can expect to see extra state police troopers on the roads as well. Historically, Halloween is a particularly deadly night because of drunk drivers. Last year, more than half of all highway deaths across the nation involved a driver with a blood alcohol level of .08 or higher. That level is the legal limit in Oregon . Groups who plan to drink are encouraged to have a designated driver and take the keys away from anyone who is not in good shape to get behind the wheel.
