It's been said that cats have nine lives, but one woman is crediting her 7-month-old kitty for saving one.

Chrissy Mitzak had just gotten out of bed inside her Homestead apartment building when she noticed her cat, Sassy, was acting strangely.

"She made a real quick jerk and was crawling at the walls and crawling and crawling. I was like 'What is it? A bug? What is it?'" said Mitzak.

Mitzak said she shrugged it off at first, but Sassy, kept causing commotion near the bathroom wall.

"I started hearing this popping noise and I'm like 'What is that?' I ran to my bathroom and there were all kinds of sparks and everything," said Mitzak.

It turned out an electrical fire had broken out between the walls.

Mitzak called the firefighters, who made quick work of the flames, but thanks her cat for saving the day.

"I just love her to death and thank God for her because I was thinking about going to sleep. I didn't feel good this morning -- imagine if I was sleeping," said Mitzak.

Mitzak was the only resident inside the apartment building and has been evacuated while firefighters and the landlord attempt to determine the cause of the fire.

Mitzak and Sassy are planning to move into a new place on Sunday.
