CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. - WGAL.com
Two men pleaded guilty Thursday to running an illegal gambling operation in Cumberland County.
Joseph Waiwada of Enola and Roger Van Selow of Dauphin pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges.
Prosecutors said they agreed to drop felony charges because the operation wasn't large enough to merit jail time.
In January 2008, police raided a gambling game that had been operating out of Jeff's Body Shop in Upper Allen Township. The game involved dozens of players from across the state.
Police seized chips, tables, cards, money and surveillance equipment.
Authorities said this was an illegal gambling operation because the organizers took a cut of the winnings.
"First and foremost, the investigation revealed that this was a for-profit and the promoters were making money. The profits were not huge," said Cumberland County District Attorney Dave Freed.
The owner of the body shop, Jeff Wilhelm, still faces felony corruption charges.
