SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. - WYFF 4.com
Brandy and Aric Drummond are suspects in the death of her son, according to Spartanburg County deputies.
The 2-year-old died in November 2008. Brandy Drummond said he'd been sick and ended up in the hospital. Once discharged, he was staying with his grandmother when he fell out of a bed and hit his head. The boy later died.
"A baby bed being the height it is, that kind of a fall on the head for a 2-year-old, can be a traumatic fall," said Brandy.
She believed the death to be an accident, but the Spartanburg County coroner told WYFF News4 it was not, and ruled it a homicide.
"It hurts. It hurts that anybody could sit here and say that we would do something like that to our child," said Brandy.
The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the homicide. So far, agents have not filed charges against the Drummonds in that case.
Deputies said the death investigation led to another investigation. Detectives said an 8-year-old girl claimed Aric Drummond sexually abused her and that Brandy Drummond knew about it, but didn't stop or prevent it.
"If they were said, I don't feel, I don't feel she voluntarily said them," said Brandy. "Really I feel there's nothing to tell."
Brandy told WYFF News4's Mike McCormick that her husband never sexually assaulted anyone. Deputies said the charges still stand.
Aric Drummond remains behind bars, awaiting a hearing with a circuit court judge. Brandy Drummond said in the meantime, she'll begin fighting the claims made by law enforcement.
"I feel like to this point, being quiet hasn't done anything," she said. "I feel like this is a start. Letting people know and the other side of it, what's been going on because until you speak out they're only gonna know what they're saying."
