Flooding in South Arkansas' Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge is creating a dangerous situation along the Ouachita River.
That's why the 2009 Modern Gun Quota Deer Hunts have been cancelled. They had been scheduled for November 14-15 and November 19-20.
Record rains have caused unprecedented flooding along the Ouachita in both Arkansas and Louisiana, and even more rain is in the forecast for today and tomorrow. [Click here for more on the forecast].
At the current levels, there is not enough available area that is not flooded to conduct the hunts safely.
As of Thursday, all refuge roads are closed with several feet of water covering most of them.
