The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says a prairie scene with a badger and meadowlark is the winning design in an online survey for a new license plate to raise money for endangered species in the state.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says a prairie scene with a badger and meadowlark is the winning design in an online survey for a new license plate to raise money for endangered species in the state.

The agency proposed four designs for the plate and the badger received 68 percent of the more than 23,000 votes cast. Two of designs -- one featuring a great blue heron and the other an eastern bluebird -- each got 12 percent of the vote, and the redheaded woodpecker got 8 percent.

DNR Secretary Matt Frank says his agency and the Department of Transportation will use the survey results to make a final decision on the new license plate design, which will be available to motorists in 2010 for a $25 contribution.

The new design will join the grey wolf, which has been featured on the plate since 1995.
