The penalty phase of the man convicted of a Tomoka State Prison correction's officer's murder continued on Wednesday.
Enoch Hall was serving two life sentences for kidnapping and rape at the time of the murder. He was convicted last week and state prosecutors are asking for the death penalty.
On Wednesday, defense attorneys tried to give the jury some reason to spare Hall's life. The jury heard testimony from Hall's sick mother by telephone and testimony from fellow inmates who testified Hall was not a problem inmate and worked diligently as a welder in the prison's vocational facility.
Hall's lawyers also called a former Department of Corrections employee who told the jury that maximum management for a lifer in prison would be more restrictive than years on death row, but on cross examination, the employee admitted lifers can be released from Maximum management.
Tuesday, the state offered testimony from past victims to convince a jury Hall deserves death, including a woman he kidnapped and raped at knifepoint.
