CORPUS CHRISTI - There's at least one certainty when it comes to the upcoming Islanders women's basketball season: Shaye montgomery will log heavy minutes. The senior guard has started 61 straight games for the Isles, transforming her game along the way.

After averaging 8.6 points a game as a sophomore, she really came on at the end of last year when the team's injuries mounted. Montgomery pumped in 15 a night over the team's final 11 games, even putting up a career high 24 against Sam Houston State. Fans can expect the move from distributor to scorer to continue.

"Well this year I'm going to try my hardest to, like the last few games we had in the tournament, step it up in the beginning and not wait until the end." Montgomery said. "So, that's my personal goal as a player, to do that more."

"She looks to be a better scorer for us right now on the floor," added Head Coach Rob Robinson. "I'm actually moving her to the two guard spot some here as well, which should help her produce some pretty good numbers for us and limit her having to play so many minutes at the point guard position."
