ND steps up monitoring for zebra mussels
When zebra mussels were found in western Minnesota lakes this fall, the North Dakota Game and Fish Department stepped up monitoring for such aquatic nuisance species to try to control their spread.
Two compliance checks have been conducted this month. The department's enforcement chief, Bob Timian, says two citations were written to out-of-state hunters at the Devils Lake checkpoint after potentially harmful vegetation was found on their equipment.
No problems were found during a check at the Interstate 94 Oriska rest stop this past weekend.
Fines start at $100, and any contaminated boats or equipment are held until they are properly disinfected.
