Routine Traffic Stop Nets Stolen Car, Drugs

TOLEDO, Iowa - THEIOWACHANNEL.com
Police said Wednesday that a routine traffic stop resulted in the discovery of a stolen car and lead to drug charges.
Police said an officer stopped Matthew Hazelwood, 20, of Eldora, on B Street near Highway 30 at 9:45 p.m.on Tuesday.
The officer said the driver gave him a false name of a person who had a suspended driver's license. The officer then arrested the driver on the suspension charge, but then learned the man was actually Hazelwood.
Police said the car Hazelwood was driving was reported stolen in Marshalltown.
Hazelwood was wanted on a parole violation, police said. Officers said they also found marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
Hazelwood was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, false information to law enforcement, prohibited acts and possession of stolen property.
He's being held in the Tama County Jail on $10,000.
