The Waterbury Fire Department has moved Henry S. Chase School students from the lower level of the school to a safe area within the school after a gas main broke about 20 feet away on Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews have not evacuated the elementary school because the leak is outside and they said students will be safer in the school.

According to the school’s Web site, the leak is on Meriden Road and all students on the lower level of the building have been moved to other classrooms as a precaution.
