Oak Ridge Military Academy has named a new president at the school.
C. Cuyler McKnight, of High Point, was named the school's 26th president Tuesday. McKnight is a retired U.S. Army officer.
"Cuyler is an outstanding member of the local community, distinguished as a proven leader, a man with a visible legacy of integrity and character," said board of trustees Chairman Mike Mebane.
The school has faced financial woes during the past year.
The school was $5 million in debt at one point. Several faculty and staff members announced in April that they were forgoing five weeks' salary in an effort to shore up funds.
The move saved the school more than $100,000, but it wasn't enough to keep 11 hourly staffers from being laid off several weeks later.
Oak Ridge Military Academy, founded in 1852, is North Carolina's official military school and the state's oldest college preparatory school.
The school said it focuses on education through discipline, citizenship and leadership. One of the school's most notable alumni is NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr.
