MINNEAPOLIS -- A Minneapolis man has been charged for beating his six-month-old daughter.
The Hennepin County Attorney charged Alexander Levallais, 20 with first-degree assault.
The child's mother came home on October 22 to find the baby in bed, wheezing and gasping for breath. She also noticed the child had purple marks on her chest and head injuries.
The criminal complaint says Levallais was the only adult with the child.
The baby was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center. Levallais told police he was playing cards while the children were sleeping on the bed. He heard a thump and saw the baby lying on the floor.
According to the criminal complaint, Levallais later told police he dropped the child on the bathroom floor.
The child has a number of injuries including bleeding in the brain and a number of rib fractures. Doctors say the child's injuries don't match up with either story Levallais told police.
Levallais is currently in custody on an unrelated matter.
