After more than a half year of negotiations, a tentative settlement is reached.
West Fargo teachers and school district officials agreed on terms for a new two year contract Monday night. Five weeks ago, the two sides were at impasse, but decided to meet one more time in hopes of reaching common ground, which they did.
Tom Gentzkow: "When we called impasse 5 weeks ago, I think the board was at their wits end, where they wants to go and what they wanted to do, but as time goes on a change of heart and you tell yourself we need to get back together one more time and try a last ditch effort."
Dan Wolf: "Sigh! It feels good. I think everyone wants to make more money and do those sorts of things, but at the end of the day, people understand that having an agreement is good and it’s important."
The agreement calls for an average increase in the first year of 3.26% and 5.35% the second year. Both sides must still formally approved the agreement. That's expected to take a few weeks.
