Authorities in Rockingham County said an anonymous caller notified authorities Monday morning after spotting the vehicle. Troopers spent much of the day Monday investigating at a home off Moir Mill Road.

Troopers were looking for a silver Dodge Durango sport utility vehicle with heavy damage to the front end.

A Dodge Durango parked at the house had front-end damage, as well as a broken windshield, but there was no confirmation that the vehicle had been involved in the crash.

Troopers said they were working to obtain a warrant allowing them to search the vehicle. No arrests have been made.

David Vincent Sherman, 55, of Summerfield, was riding south along Church Street at about 5:40 p.m. Saturday when he was struck and killed by a vehicle troopers said drove away from the scene.

Sherman, who was married with two adult children, was an employee at Sealy Mattress Company.

In addition to being an avid bicyclist, Sherman was also a violinist in the Greensboro Philharmonia.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call troopers at 334-5500.
