CHICAGO -

United Airlines said Tuesday that members of its mileage program can use miles on hotel rooms and car rentals.

Robert Sahadevan, an executive in the Mileage Plus program, said members wanted more ways to use miles than just on flights.

Starting Tuesday, miles can be used on hotels anywhere worldwide and car rentals in the United States and Canada.

United, a unit of UAL Corp., recently removed fees for making a last-minute booking with miles.
