Dudu Nobre, his wife and the producer filed the lawsuit against American Airlines last week, seeking $4 million in damages.
Nobre, who is black, claims one flight attendant repeatedly called him a "monkey" in Portuguese and made "monkey-like" sounds and gestures during the flight last year to Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The lawsuit claims the attendant threatened a fight and stabbed Nobre's producer with a pen as they were getting off the plane.
American Airlines officials declined comment Monday.
