Though Kate Gosselin wasn’t pleased about being portrayed as a mother “out of control” when In Touch magazine published photos of her spanking daughter Leah, the “Jon & Kate Plus 8” mom doesn’t regret her actions.
“Whether the paparazzi are there or not, I am a mother first,” Gosselin said in a statement released to Life and Style. “I love my children and when they misbehave, I discipline them as I deem appropriate for the situation.”
According to In Touch, the situation in question came about after Gosselin asked the 5-year-old to stop blowing a whistle while she was on the phone.
“(Kate) seemed to lose her temper,” a witness told the magazine. After the spanking, “(Leah) was screaming and crying. Kate just pushed her away and walked off with her coffee.”
Though police arrived at the family’s residence that same day, their presence was due to the encroaching paparrazi, not Gosselin’s actions.
Jada Pinkett Smith addresses ‘pretend marriage’ rumors
Earlier this week, Jada Pinkett Smith addressed the buzz that she and husband Will Smith married for reasons other than love. The actress spoke to Atlanta’s Q100 about the rumors that never rest.
“I’ve heard all the things — ‘their marriage is not real,’ ‘he’s gay,’ ‘she’s gay,’ ‘they swing,’” the “Hawthorne” star said with a laugh. “But at the end of the day, people have to believe what they have to believe. … But I’ll tell you what, it’s too hard to be in a pretend marriage. Life’s too short for that one.”
So, rather than pretending, Pinkett Smith insists the real story behind their marriage is a clear level of commitment.
“When we got together — when (Will) asked me to get married, I said, ‘Be clear that there is no divorce for me,’” she recalled. “‘I’m not doing that. So, in you asking me to get married, do know that you might be sleeping in one bedroom and I might be sleeping in another, but we’re going to be in the same house.’”
