14 injured on turbulent flight over Alps

FRANKFURT - German airline Lufthansa says 14 people were slightly injured when a plane flying to Portugal encountered turbulence over the Alps.

Lufthansa says the incident involving an Airbus A321 from Munich to Lisbon occurred Saturday evening.

Airline spokeswoman Claudia Lange said Sunday the pilot decided to make an unscheduled landing in Geneva so the injured — 12 passengers and two crew members — could be treated.

Lange did not immediately have details of the injuries. She says four people were admitted to a hospital for observation as a precaution and the rest were treated at Geneva airport.

The plane was carrying 147 passengers and six crew members. Most of them continued to Lisbon overnight on a replacement aircraft.
