SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Three men have been arrested in Puerto Rico after a 2-year-old girl, her dad and a 16-year-old boy were killed in a drive-by shooting. The men also are suspected of wounding the tot's mother and brother.
Authorities said Wednesday that charges have not yet been filed in the attack on the family.
Police told El Nuevo Dia newspaper that gunmen opened fire after several cars surrounded the family on Tuesday afternoon. The father tried to run away but was shot again.
Speaking to the paper, police Superintendent Jose Figueroa Sancha described the gunmen as "cowards."
El Nuevo Dia identified the victims as 26-year-old Alexis Olivo Marrero, his 2-year-old daughter Adrielys and Angel Vargas, 16. Marrero's wife Claribel and their son Adrián, 3, were also injured.
Days earlier, a 14-year-old boy was killed in a drive-by shooting that left an 11-year-old boy and four other people wounded.
Puerto Rico has had 282 reported killings this year, three less than this time last year.
