LOS ANGELES - Tameka Foster, the wife of R&B star Usher, is in stable condition after complications during surgery in South America, a representative for the singer confirmed to Access Hollywood Monday.

“Tameka Foster is in stable condition after suffering complications from routine surgery in Brazil,” Usher’s rep said in a statement. “Her husband Usher is with her at the hospital. No further details will be released, and the family requests privacy at this difficult time.”

Dr. Gabriel Hunt, a neurosurgeon with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, arrived in Brazil Sunday.

Usher was forced to pull out of a scheduled performance at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party because of his wife's condition. Josh Groban filled in at the annual event.

Foster, a 37-year-old stylist, recently gave birth to the couple’s second child, Naveid Ely Raymond. The couple’s first child, Usher Raymond V, was born in November 2007.

The couple married on Aug. 3, 2007.
