LOS ANGELES - One of “American Idol’s” most memorable alums is coming back in a big way.

Sanjaya Malakar, who was known as much for his big hair and personality as for his mediocre voice on his unsuccessful “Idol” Season 6 campaign, is about to release some new music — and a memoir.

The music comes in the five-song “Dancing To The Music In My Head” EP, which will be released on January 20, according to Amazon. The songs include the smooth ballad “A Guy Like Me” and the Latin-tinged “Rainy Days.”

His memoir is the similarly titled “Dancing To The Music In My Head: Memoirs Of the People’s Idol,” and follows the former top 10 finisher from his pre-fame days to his rise through the reality competition to life after “Idol.” The book is also due on January 20, from Pocket Books.

Season 8 of “American Idol” debuts on FOX on January 13.
