NEW YORK - The jury hearing the Lillo Brancato second-degree murder case says it's deadlocked 11-1.

Jurors returned home and were expected to resume deliberations Friday.

A mistrial was avoided earlier Thursday after it was discovered a juror had been taking notes on testimony and doing research on the case at home.

Brancato — who got his big break playing opposite Robert De Niro in the 1993 film "A Bronx Tale" and also is known for playing a wannabe mobster on "The Sopranos" — agreed to a substitution with an alternate juror. His consent was required because the jury had already started deliberating the day before. Jurors had to start over.

Prosecutors say Brancato and an accomplice broke into an apartment next to a policeman's home. When the off-duty officer went to investigate, the accomplice shot him in the heart.

Brancato has pleaded not guilty.
