Cruise ready to appear as Nazi in holiday film

Tom Cruise has been named to Details magazine’s power list, and in doing so, earned himself a platform to talk about his upcoming WWII-themed film “Valkyrie,” which opens on Christmas Day.

By all accounts, though, Cruise seems undaunted by the prospect of appearing onscreen in Nazi uniform during the holiday season.

“There’s always someone telling you not to make a movie,” he told Details. “When I did ‘Born on the Fourth of July,’ they said, ‘This is going to ruin your career. What are you doing?’ Suicide? I’ve committed it. There were people who didn’t want me to make ‘Top Gun.’”

Cruise went on to say that he identified with his character in the film, Claus Von Stauffenberg, who attempted to assassinate Adolf Hitler.

Cruise told the magazine, “Stauffenberg went from saying, ‘Someone should shoot that bastard’ to realizing, I’m the only one who can do it. You can’t really know until you’re under that kind of pressure. I’m not saying this in some chest-pounding way, but I do feel I’d have that kind of courage.”

In other Cruise news, look for him Dec. 4 on Barbara Walters’ 10 Most Fascinating People of 2008 special.

Us Weekly is reporting that during the interview, Cruise says his daughter Suri will get a younger sibling.

“Talk to Kate. We’re going to have more,” he says in the special.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Turtle dating?
Jerry Ferrara, a.k.a. Turtle of “Entourage” fame, and former "Sopranos" daughter Jamie-Lynn Sigler are being coy about whether or not they’re dating, but they sure do look like they’re more than just friends.

Us Weekly reports that Sigler says Ferrara is “an incredible guy,” and that “he’s really wonderful and he’s become a good friend.”

But sources close to the actress confirm that the two are a couple. “He’s very sweet and generous to her,” one Sigler confidante told Us. “They laugh together and enjoy each other’s company.”

Also part of the magazine’s case: the two were spotted holding hands at a bash in L.A. Nov. 18.

Kate Winslet talks wrinkles, Leo
Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet finally get back together on the big screen this year for the first time since they co-starred in 1997's “Titanic,” so it’s only natural that the subject of how time has changed the two comes up.

Winslet told Parade magazine that a big difference between their “Titanic” days and filming “Revolution Road” is that both have acquired wrinkles.

“I’m like, ‘Yes, damn it! Look at those foreheads move!’" she told the magazine. "I mean, (DiCaprio) has this amazing furrow (between his eyebrows) which wasn’t as prominent then, and this” — Winslet pointed to the wrinkles on her own forehead — “is much more prominent in me now.”

But the maturity signs don't seem to bother Winslet. “I just love seeing those things," she said. "I am enjoying my face changing, as well as realizing that at the same time, as you get older, the machine isn’t as well-oiled as it was.”

Weekend box office
In my family, the day after Thanksgiving is the one day of the year when we Hazletts manage to mobilize to see a movie together. So in the spirit of that tradition (and since there’s no column again until Monday, Dec. 1), I bring you a look at the weekend box office a little bit early. The two big ones this holiday weekend are “Australia” and “Four Christmases.”

Without a doubt, “Australia” should benefit a little from the attention star Hugh Jackman is receiving for being People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive, but I doubt it will beat out last weekend’s big successes, “Twilight” and “Bolt.”

If you want to be part of the water-cooler talk come Monday and see something the entire family can watch, “Four Christmases,” my prediction for number one, is your best bet. It’s PG-13, opening in more than 3,200 theaters, and if Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon don’t really ring your bell, the supporting cast is fantastic: Robert Duvall, Jon Voight and Jon Favreau all give great performances.
