DOVER, Delaware - The son of Vice President-elect Joe Biden says he plans to fulfill his military duties and won't accept an appointment to his father's U.S. Senate seat

Beau Biden, the attorney general of Delaware, has released a statement as his National Guard unit prepares to deploy to Iraq. He says he hasn't sought and wouldn't accept an appointment to the Senate.

Biden was seen as a possible successor to his father, a Democrat who must resign his Senate seat before being sworn as vice president Jan. 20. Delaware's governor will appoint a new senator.
