4th inmate captured in N.M. jailbreak

CLOVIS, N.M. - A fourth inmate who escaped from an eastern New Mexico jail has been captured, authorities said.

Victor Sotelo, 26, was arrested without incident Thursday night, District Attorney Matt Chandler said. Sotelo had been charged with aggravated assault before his escape Sunday.

Four men remain at large Friday from the group of eight that used handmade implements to cut a hole in the roof of the Curry County jail.

Also Thursday, the mother of one of the missing inmates was arrested on charges of harboring or aiding a felon.

Hester England's son, Michael England, and another inmate stopped by her home in Clovis to pick up clothes after their escape, court records said. Her arrest came a day after she made a public plea for her son to turn himself in.

Authorities were tipped off after Michael England's 8-year-old son told a school counselor about seeing his father in her home.

A woman answering the phone at England's home Friday said she was not at home and declined to take a message.

Michael England, 29, of Clovis, had been jailed on charges of tampering with evidence and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Authorities say Larry McClendon, 19, Plainview, Texas, also stopped at the England home. McClendon was charged with murder and aggravated robbery.

Also still at large:

• Edward Salas, who was sentenced to life in prison for the 2005 murder of a 10-year-old boy. The child died when shots were fired through his bedroom window as he slept.
• Louis Chavez, 18, of Albuquerque, who was charged with aggravated burglary, tampering with evidence, receiving stolen property and extreme cruelty to animals.
