USGS: 6.3-magnitude earthquake hits Tibet

State media report no casualties Monday night after quake

BEIJING - The U.S. Geological Survey said a 6.3-magnitude earthquake hit China's western region of Tibet on Monday night.

No casualties were reported, state media reported.

The official Xinhua News Agency said, however, it was felt strongly and cracks appeared in some buildings in Zhongba county, the quake's epicenter. Xinhua put the magnitude at 6.8.

On May 12, a 7.9-magnitude earthquake in China's Sichuan province killed 70,000 people and left 5 million homeless.
