Pre-Games show appears to have curse effect

Oliver Stone and any other conspiracy theorists would be proud. It looks like there could be a curse associated with the Beijing Olympics.

Before the start of the Olympics, the HD television station Mojo ran a miniseries, "A Shot at Glory," which told the stories of 11 American Olympians.

More than half of those profiled had quite a rough go in Beijing, a Yahoo! Sports blog reported:

Wrestler Daniel Cormier dropped out after being hospitalized hours after weigh-in with kidney failure and other physical problems from cutting weight.

Wallace Spearmon was disqualified from the 200 meters after crossing into a competitor's lane.

Boxer Gary Russell Jr. passed out while trying to make weight and had to drop out. He was considered a medal threat.

Gymnast Samantha Peszek sprained her ankle just before the women's qualification round, and only competed in the uneven parallel bars.

Runner Tyson Gay didn't qualify for the 200 after injuring his leg at the Olympic Trials. And then didn't make the finals for the 100. On top of that, he and Darvis Patton mishandled the baton in the 400 relay.

Swimmer Kate Ziegler did not make the finals in any of her events, though she was expected to medal.
